That the Lord would teach him how to be a good husband & likewise me a good wife {Ephesians 5:22-33
I know I am not good with words and when I talk also it is difficult for me to convey my ideas to people. So I don't know how much you can understand from this. I want to share a life story with you all.
I am born and bought as a Catholic in a very traditional Christian family and so catechism and Holy mass were part of my life. When I was 12 years old, I think, charismatic biblical retreats became popular in Kerala. At that time I had a school-friend who was a Marthomite believer but who liked Catholic prayers and all (because her mom was a catholic). We were talking about our summer vacation plans and she told about the Christeen retreat center in Kottayam (retreat center for kids and teenagers) where she was planning to go and after discussing it with our parents, we decided to go together for a week during our summer vacations. I was so excited because it was my first trip without parents and with my friend. It started with the Holy mass and with a small talk after that. During the second day also talks, class, prayers, rosary and so on. Every day we came to hear a lot of new things and learned a lot. The day before the end of the retreat it was counseling day and that day a teacher came for counseling and she gave as a class in general and shared her experiences with students. In between she told us an experience that I can still remember very clearly, that she used to pray for her future husband. She said every day before she went to sleep, she used to pray for him like, God protect him from all evils and help him to be ready to a good husband, father and man. And she got married, and once when they talked she told him about the prayer she did for him. He told he felt that protection and love always before he start something, which protected him from all mischief and evil.
From that day I included one more person (I saw him during his childhood days but never thought he will be my husband) in my prayers, which would be something along these lines, “God, please make my husband exist out there somewhere, please help him come to me as fast as he possibly can, oh… and bless him too to be a good husband, man and protect him from all evil”. I was sure hope my husband already “existed” when I was fourteen else I still had a LONG time to wait for him. I believe God heard my prayers giving me a loving caring husband, and a good father to our daughters.
Am waiting to tell this to my girls when they can understand about family, married life... When we were born itself, God decided who our husband or wife would be. No one can change that my belief in that. Otherwise there was no chance I would have said “yes” to Tilj when I was studying and the days when I never even thought about marriage. In some way or other the person for us will come to us.
If it's an arranged or love marriage, tell our kids to pray for their future spouse: to pray for their heart, their relationships, their future, their relationship with God and more for a beautiful loving life. It’s never too early to start praying for your future spouse whether you’re ten or fifteen. By praying for them at an early age they are joining in the battle for their future to develop into the godly men/women they should be and this will be a blessing to them and their family later on down the road.
Have a nice day.
